By now you all will have read yesterday that Kerry Schafer is leaving us to move on to bigger and better things. Alas. But we're excited and thrilled to introduce our new Saturday Word Whore:
Urban Fantasy Author Carolyn Crane!
I first encountered Carolyn and her books on Sullivan McPig's review blog. I read just one of Carolyn's novellas and was totally hooked. And then she turned out to be this lovely, funny and insightful person, too. I'm greatly looking forward to what she brings to our weekly themes.
Which brings me to this week's theme: If You Could Live Anywhere, Where & Why.
The house pictured above is on the island of Virgin Gorda, in the Caribbean.I took the photo while on vacation and I even titled it "My House." Yes, it's right on the beach. One of the rooms, which I fantasize is the master bedroom, has french doors to a balcony that overlooks the beach and the water from a high wall like this. Yes, that's right: My Room.
David and I both love the Caribbean. We first went when I was sent to the U.S. Virgin Islands of St. Thomas and St. Croix to look at their drinking water. Of course, David tagged along on that trip. I don't know why he never wants to come on the Des Moines or Springfield jobs.
It was love at first sight. The incredible blue of the sea, the crystal clear waters, so calm and warm, teeming with so much colorful life. The long, winding white-sand beaches.
Since then we've been "collecting" islands. I've now been to the Puerto Rico main island, along with Culebra and Vieques, to St. Thomas and St. Croix, Tortola and Virgin Gorda. So much tropical goodness to love.
I'm totally working on a plan to make it happen.
Look for me in my white house, overlooking the blue waters.
It's lovely. I sometimes think of those slow-lazy-beach-infused lifes and they are always on an island, not a mainland... so I'm with you that far.
ReplyDeleteBut not the cottage in the South of Ireland with the tea kettle and the local pub? Somehow always been my image of you. Ah well - you can come and visit me there and I'll come visit you along your white sand beaches! :)
Im comin to visit. You do have a guest room? Maybe a couch? Hee
ReplyDeleteNice! Our favorite island is Staniel Cay in the Bahamas. One day we'll live there at least part of the year. :) http://stanielcay.com/
ReplyDeleteCarolyn! Hi! I'm so glad you're the new Word Whore. =o)
ReplyDeleteYour house is gorgeous, Jeffe. Love me some white sandy beaches and tropical breezes. I hope you find a way to make it happen.
Yay for Carolyn being the new Word Whore! *cheers*
ReplyDeleteAnd I want to come visit as well!
I'm down for the visiting part, but honestly, I just want to live where I am now. With a maid, and a couple of additions to the house. : )
ReplyDeleteThat sounds lovely, too, Tia - but more and more I'm gravitating to the warm. A teakettle just wouldn't cut it!
ReplyDeleteGuest room is a must, Linda!
Ooh, that place looks fabulous, too, Sue - thanks for sharing!
Thanks, B.E. - me, too.
Sullivan - you all can come any time!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to like where you live, Kerry.
Welcome, welcome, Carolyn!
ReplyDeleteJeffe, I can't imagine why a scuba girl like you would want to live in a beach-side palace. ~cough~ It is a beautiful place.
the snorkeling right in front of that house is amazing, too. :D
ReplyDeleteHey! So proud to be a whore!! Thanks so much for the kind words!! Now, just to be clear, this means I now get to live in that house?
ReplyDeleteGreat post.
That's right, Carolyn - every official Word Whore gets... the dream house of his or her choice thanks to this highly profitable blog! Yay!!!
ReplyDeleteHey now! We're profitable. Really. :)
DeleteRich in luurrrvveeee.
~rolls around in the piles of lurv~
DeleteI happen to know you've been around the Bahamas a bit, as well, Jeffe, but it sure is nice out there in the Caribbean.
ReplyDeleteTis true, Kev - thanks you guys, but I'm thinking Bahamas does not equal Caribbean?
