Do I recommend them? Absolutely.
Have I done them? No. But I've had a couple of them made for me.
Do I think they help? I think that depends on the quality of the trailer, just as the cover of a book MIGHT help or hinder depending on the quality. I know the covers for the Seven Forges books have helped immensely in comparison to a few of the ones I've done in the past.
I have never purchased a book based on a book trailer.
That's pretty much it.

Book Trailers
I write fiction, a little of everything and a lot of horror. I've written novels, comic books, roleplaying game supplements, short stories, novellas and oodles of essays on whatever strikes my fancy. That might change depending on my mood and the publishing industry. Things are getting stranger and stranger in the wonderful world of publishing and that means I get to have fun sorting through the chaos (with all the other writer-types). I have a website. This isn't it. This is where you can likely expect me to talk about upcoming projects and occasionally expect a rant or two. Not too many rants. Those take a lot of energy. In addition to writing I work as a barista, because I still haven't decided to quit my day job. Opinions are always welcome.

Huh, I had to sit and think about it for a bit but I am fairly certain I have never purchased a book because of a trailer either. The book trailers I end up seeing are for books I am anticipating, I seek them out. I guess when the Walking Dead is interrupted by a book trailer then I could say I was persuaded by one.
ReplyDeleteMy point. I have seen a few trailers, but to this date none of them have made me rush out to purchase a new book or even changed my mind when I was waffling.
