Effervescence can get you in trouble. That is, if you use it around your mother. She might hold her breath for a second...at least until you get the third and fourth syllables out and she realizes you're being harmlessly superfluous in your word choice.
Does anyone use this word for anything besides Alka-seltzer or other similar tablets?
