CONTEST!

Hey everyone! I'm so excited about the upcoming release of SHATTERED CIRCLE (Jan. 29) that I want to give a signed copy away!!!

I've tried this on facebook--a little difficult--so I'm going to re-do the contest here, where folks can follow a link and leave comment/entries waaaaay more easily.

Here are the rules:

1.) Tell me which of my characters is your favorite.
2.)  Tell me what you think their theme song is...or a song that makes you think of them.
**Add a link to a youtube video if you can--so I can go listen--but the link is not necessary.
**If you want to enter for a couple of characters, that's ok by me.

I'll pick a winner based on originality and all around coolness. Honestly, how much coffee I've had will likely play a factor too, so I will endeavor to stay courageously caffeinated this week. (hee hee) My decision is final, no whining. Carmen, who won this contest on fb, sadly, I will say you are not eligible to win in this round because that just makes sense.

This contest will run until NOON EST Tuesday January 22, 2013 so you have plenty of time to think about it and I have plenty of time to advertise the heck outta this contest. I want to see what music you find remniscent of my characters, it's really very interesting to me and I get to hear about a lot of cool music I might not otherwise get exposed to!!!

Leave your entry in the comments here--ROCK ON!!!

GOOD LUCK!

Now, ahem, on to the topic of the week: reading as an author.

I do not get to read as much as I would like to these days. When I do, I find it is mostly research non-fiction type books. However, there are a few authors that I can't help squeezing in. I can't say that I study the technique as I read, BUT if I find a particularly moving/cool passage, I will re-read and study that particular part. If I find an annoying part that throws me out of the story, I look at that scene and try to figure out why--but this doesn't happen often.

  2. Johnny for me as well, but I hear The Sisters of Mercy when I think of Johnny.
This Corrosion really fits him I think:

  3. Menessos...there is a magnetism to him that you can't deny. Even if you don't love him (give him time, he WILL wear you down). The type of guy that makes a move on a woman already with a man has something deep, primal, and irresistible. To have that in your face over and over will make you crave a taste...no matter how committed you are. To top it off, Menessos is the beginning, what he created -
makes me think of Shinedown's Sound of Madness as his song.

  4. Menessos - because I can't even imagine there being another choice.Having said that, my music selection actually works equally well for both Menessos AND Johnny. Closer by Nine Inch Nails. Kickass video, too: http://youtu.be/PTFwQP86BRs

  5. Hmmm, why didn't the link I posted above come out as a link? I'll try again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTFwQP86BRs

  6. Seph is my favorite :) And Grace Potter and the Nocturnals song- The Lion, The Beast, The Beat- remind of her. Don't know why.

  7. Definitely Johnny. He’s the perfect mix of the wolf next door and the bad boy your momma warned you about.

“Spellbound” by Siouxsie and the Banshees makes me think of him.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9otg_Cm50RE

Don’t be too jealous of Siouxsie’s yellow dress. I plan to have one made and would be happy to share the patter.  It’s just too cute! But seriously, think about the lyrics:

    Following the footsteps
    Of a rag doll dance
    We are entranced
    Spellbound

    and

    And don't forget
    When your elders forget
    To say their prayers
    Take them by the legs
And throw them down the stairs

It’s sooo Johnny. The first part being the whole (oh god, is that a spoiler? Okay, you’re the author so you know what I mean, lol) and the second part being (gah! Spoiler too! But you know the battle I’m talking about with the ultimate Big Bad in his world!).

  9. So my first answer was witty but it never posted, so I’ll try to recapture its magic. 

I went with Johnny because he’s the perfect mix of wolf next door and the bad boy your momma warned you about.

“Spellbound” by Siouxsie and the Banshees totally reminds me of him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9otg_Cm50RE

    Look at the lyrics:

    Following the footsteps
    Of a rag doll dance
    We are entranced
    Spellbound

That’s pretty much his entire existence before his memory was returned.

    And don't forget
    When your elders forget
    To say their prayers
    Take them by the legs
And throw them down the stairs

And that, of course, is the fight of fights with the Big Bad in his world. 

  10. Johnny's Song to me is Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9ANOzmSKQg
Why: Johnny's never really cared what others think of him and even after he's recognized as the Dom and suddenly had fame, a ton of responsibilities, his choices were constantly scrutinized and critizised and gossiped about, he still doesn't seem to care what others think so...the song seems fitting.

Persephone: She's a fighter, and while she attempts to handle everything thrown at her gracefully, the girl can't seem to catch a break. The rendition of Swan Lake by The Agonist suites her I think. She's powerful, complex, and very human. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqvUIyoDgXU

Menessos was the hardest to pinpoint. I felt he deserved something slightly haunting and epic. After much thought I decided that Two Steps from Hell's After the Fall suits him. Over the course of his existence he seems to have gained some introspection and is horribly alone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSH-_ScN6G0

Johnny and Persephone's relationship always seems complicated by something. They clearly love each other but whether it's the time and the place for the relationship is in question at the end of the last book. This song, and the accompanying clip are a surprisingly interesting summation of their relationship.
    Lady Gaga's Poker Face & Dhoom 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=4Azx5V1Qccw
Yes, I know it's GaGa but have you heard/seen it like this before? I picture Johnny and Persephone here because in these clips from the movie seems the two main characters are attracted and love each other but there's conflict and things that keep them apart. Also, the guy in the movie, Hrithik, is the most gorgeous man I've ever seen, so that helps too :)

  12. My favourite character is Johnny. He is so cool, sexy and a bad boy. The song I choose for him is Hungry Like The Wolf but intead of Duran Durans version I pick Hole's version because they are my favourite band too. Here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JThUBL0oeUY Rock On

  13. My favorite would be a tie between Demeter (Nana) and Persphone because both do what has to be done even if they don't want to. Also a theme song for them would be Fighter by Christina Aguilera. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PstrAfoMKlc
