Captain Jack Will Get You by Tonight

by Jeffe Kennedy

Today's post is a bit of a drive-by since I'm packing up all of my ill-gotten gains at the RT Booklovers Convention and heading home. Speaking of which, if you haven't yet seen sister-Word-Whore Carolyn Crane's hysterically brilliant post on HER RT experience, you really must. So my pick for favorite non-US TV show or series? Has to be Torchwood. Mostly because John Barrowman does a superb job of playing the sexy and omnisexual Captain Jack Harkness. Never has a trench coat looked so awesome. I think partly because it is a British show, they are far more willing to break the lines that tend to confine American television. With a story that's all about challenging boundaries and ideas, this is a wonderful thing. Seriously - go watch it.

  1. I've heard wonderful things about this Dr. Who spin-off, but have yet to see any eps. Perhaps I should get around to remedying that...

  2. I agree that the show is excellent, but if you have watched it since its conception, you'll notice that Jack has evolved from being omnisexual to 100% homosexual.

Now, I could care less about gay or not, because his relationship with Ianto was romantic and beautiful in a variety of ways. What I'm a bit disappointed in, is that his character feels less complete without that "He'll shag anything beautiful" 'swagger' of sorts.

He is still the least annoying and most action-oriented companion of the modern Dr. Who selections (Donna being the worst).

  3. oh yes, KAK - I think you'd love it!

I know what you mean, Branden. And I was kind of bored with all-Ianto, all-the-time. Still, I thought of it as being overall temporary, since Jack would live on and, presumably, go back to shagging anything beautiful.
